The Witcher - first episode
The books of Andrzej Sapkowski may not be that well-known around the world. The games that are based on the books, on the other hand, are quite successful, especially The Witcher 3. I am also part of the large group that enjoys playing this fantasy role-playing game. When it was revealed that Netflix was going to create a series about The Witcher, I was both hopeful and afraid. Would the creators be able to create a show of such quality that it is worthy or would it just be a quick cash grab?
In this first episode there are more familiar names. Well, the fans of the games will surely recognize the names. Those of you who have never heard about Ciri (Freya Allan, The War of the Worlds) or Yennefer (Anya Chalotra, Sherwood), don't worry. You'll soon be able to remember them.
Ciri is a princess whose life completely changes after the army of Nilfgaard invades her kingdom. Yennefer is a pig shepherd who is also experiencing the necessary shocking changes. I will not give away more. Honestly, the series doesn't provide you with a lot of explanation. I like that, because it gives room for personal interpretation. Most things will be explained by the way, but that may require some patience from the viewer.
The series has a very high rating on IMDb. That really isn't just because of blind love declarations from the fans of the games. This series definitely deserves to be watched. Those who enjoyed Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings should definitely give The Witcher a chance.
In addition to credible drama, exciting battles and high-quality special effects, the series offers solid acting and real chemistry between the main characters. The script is supposed to mainly stick to the books, but I cannot confirm that because I have not read them myself. The advantage of this is that I can therefore judge the script on its own. As far as I'm concerned, that's not a bad thing.
The entire series can already be seen on Netflix. The series has already been renewed for a second season. I reward this first episode with a well-earned 8.5.

To the fans I can definitely say that the show doesn't disappoint. The first episode immediately manages to create a Witcher vibe. Violence and gore are not shunned and there's even a hint of magic every now and then. The casting is just right, as Henry Cavill (The Tudors) portrays a perfect Geralt of Rivia. The way he talks and moves is just right, and his sword skills are incredible. Just to say something else about the swordfighting, it is top notch and the choreography is put together well.Would the creators be able to create a show of such quality that it is worthy or would it just be a quick cash grab?
