The Witcher - Season 1
If you mix Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and the world of King Arthur, you pretty much get The Witcher. It is a series filled with action, magic and mythological beings. The entire first season screams fantasy. Although this description could give the impression that I think the series is fantastic, but that isn't true. The show didn't have it all. Nonetheless, I still consider it to be an entertaining series that you want to keep watching.
The first season of The Witcher has eight episodes, which all last for approximately an hour. The series is based on a Polish novel series, which consists of eight books. The first season displays the events of the first two books, which are called 'The Last Wish' and 'Sword of Destiny'. The book series has resulted in three highly successful videogames, from which the third is considered to be one of the best games of the last decade. Those who know the games can easily see the similarities between the main character of the series and the game: Geralt of Rivia.

Geralt (Henry Cavill, The Tudors) is a witcher. What that may mean, despite them being very capable at killing monsters for money, isn't fully explained in the series. But it is clear what they're capable of. They're powerful, they can use magic, they can become very old, and they aren't very social. I don't think Geralt smiled once, and his voice is very gravelly, which reminded me of Batman. Apart from all that, Witchers remain a bit of a mystery.
Next to Geralt, there are two other main characters with their own storylines. I'm talking about mage Yennefer (Anya Chalotra, The ABC Murders) and Ciri (Freya Allan, The War of the Worlds), the crown princess of Cintra. Through the season, their background story is expanded upon, and you find out more about their history and what drives them. At first, the constant switching between various storylines can seem a bit chaotic, but it gets better near the ending. All of a sudden, it becomes clear - and this isn't a spoiler - that all the storylines take place in different times. However, in my opinion, despite everything being explained, it doesn't make sense. But if you can get past that, then The Witcher is a very entertaining and beautiful series.
A second season has been announced, and that makes sense considering the cliffhanger at the end of season one. It has already been revealed that the second season will be a bit more linear. I expect that all the timelines will coincide. I will definitely watch the second season.
The Witcher is a highly entertaining series, which contains a lot of action, magic and interesting mythology. Despite some things being illogical, which was easily avoidable, I will recommend others to watch this series. I am curious to see what kinds of adventures Geralt will have in the second season.
Based on everything, I will give the first season of The Witcher a 7.
