BBC Two gives The Fall a third season

Gibson and Spector are getting one last act. The third season will get five episodes and production will start late 2015 and will be aired early 2016. The second season ended with a reasonable cliffhanger and the story will be completed according to the following tweet from the BBC: “The cat and mouse game between Gibson and Spector has one last act to play out. Who will win? #TheFall will return.”

Both lead actors Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan will return for the third and perhaps final season. Despite that the second season of ‘The Fall’ had disappointing ratings, it is due to critical acclaim and international appeal that the open end of season two is going to be completed now.

BBC’s Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson, said: “The story is far from over. Allan has known the end game from the beginning – the cat and mouse game between Gillian and Jamie has one last act to play out. Who will win?”

“I want programme makers to come to BBC Two to do their most distinctive and signature work and I’m therefore delighted that Allan Cubitt and the team are bringing ‘The Fall’ back for a third series, demonstrating once again the continued strength of drama on the channel”, commented BBC Two Controller Kim Shillinglaw.

Series creator Allan Cubitt, added: “We’d like to thank the BBC: Kim Shillinglaw, Ben Stephenson and Stephen Wright for showing such confidence in the drama we have created with Artists Studio. The cliffhanger ending of season two was conceived in the hope of further exploring the characters and the themes that are at the heart of ‘The Fall’. We’re grateful to be given this opportunity by the BBC.”

Are you glad that ‘The Fall’ has been renewed?
