The series is a luxurious new adaptation of The Forsyte Saga, the famous novel cycle by Nobel Prize winner John Galsworthy. The story follows the lives of a wealthy but emotionally complex family in 1880s London. The Forsytes is intended as a long-running series and was developed by Debbie Horsfield, the BAFTA-nominated author of Poldark.
The cast is led by BAFTA winner Francesca Annis (Lillie) as the unwavering headmistress Ann Forsyte. Also starring are Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Millie Gibson (Doctor Who (2024)), Jack Davenport (The Morning Show) and Eleanor Tomlinson (One Day).
This is the third television adaptation of The Forsyte Saga in less than sixty years. The BBC version from 1967 attracted up to 18 million viewers at the time, and in 2002 ITV revived it with Damian Lewis and Gina McKee among others.
With an impressive cast, a rich historical story and an experienced creative team, The Forsytes looks set to become a permanent fixture in the costume drama palette of both British and American television in 2025.
