The Walking Dead - Season 9 (first episode)
The Walking Dead is back with an entirely new season. Viewers are probably not sure what they can expect. The Walking Dead is no longer like the previous seasons, it's become a bit of a bore. In this season, the show has to prove itself once again. Several weeks ago the first episode of the season aired.
The title of this first episode was 'A New Beginning' and that was clearly noticeable. It's easy to see that there has been a bit of a time jump. I noticed this with Maggie (Lauren Cohan, Chuck), who has sort of taken on the role of leader. If we head back to the previous season, we should still remember that Negan has been temporarily incapacitated and that Maggie completely disagreed with Rick's (Andrew Lincoln, Teachers) decision to let him live. Since then Rick and Maggie have been at odds with each other, but that isn't completely visible in this episode.
You can see that the former best friends, Rick and Daryl (Norman Reedus, Ride With Norman Reedus), are slowly becoming each other's enemy. This is actually quite sad to see: two best friends being driven apart. Due to the time jump a lot has changed. Everyone is still mourning the death of a beloved friend. And in addition, two main characters have found each other. Even though the group is divided and everyone isn't as tight with each other as they used to be, they all still try to help each other. It's all a matter of survival, just like it has been in the previous seasons. Like so many other episodes, this one ends on a shocking cliffhanger.
What can I say..... The Walking Dead is just becoming a bit stale. The story about the walkers is fading into the background and it's slowly turning into a drama series. This can actually turn out quite well or it can go horribly wrong. For me it would've been a lot more interesting if the walkers would've remained a big part of the plot. Even though I personally think the show has finished several seasons ago, I can't stop myself from watching. Next to that, this episode was really good. There was quite a bit of tension and it appeared as if the show is making a comeback. And for that reason I am quite interested in this season. I do wonder if this is going to be the final season. For now, let's just enjoy the ninth season, which has started off with an excellent episode.
