The Walking Dead - Season 11 (third part)

The Walking Dead ends on a high note. Incidentally, there is already clear reference to the multiple spin-offs that are in development.
Finally it's time. The long-awaited conclusion to the twelve-year running series The Walking Dead. Despite the fact that several main characters have left the series before, the quality of the series remained high, which was also the case in this last part. It remained exciting, catchy, and sometimes emotional. In addition, other characters got more depth, which usually worked out well. Even though this really is the end of the series, it remains clear that the world of The Walking Dead is far from coming to an end.

Like the previous two parts of the final season, the third and final part consists of eight episodes (episodes seventeen through twenty-four). Yet there is a clear difference with the first two parts of the eleventh season. Many episodes start with a combination of short fragments from previous seasons, making the path traveled over the years even more clearly leading to an end. For many characters, it seems like a clear conclusion after the series ends, but multiple spin-offs have been confirmed, so in theory, anyone could return.

The core of the last part is the build-up of tension within the Commonwealth up to and including the eventual escalation. The (anti-)heroes we have come to know over the years each play a clear role in this. Maggie (Lauren Cohen: Whiskey Cavalier), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan: Supernatural), Daryl (Norman Reedus: Helluva Boss), and Carol (Melissa McBride: Dawson's Creek), among others, are waging a full offensive against the Commonwealth.

Even though this really is the end of the series, it remains clear that the world of The Walking Dead is far from over.

But the prominent figures of the Commonwealth also play a crucial role in eliminating the current (corrupt) authority. Throughout the season, military chief Michael Mercer (Michael James Shaw: Blood & Treasure) becomes increasingly aware that the Milton family is not as merciful as they make it out to be, and this raises more doubts about his role within the Commonwealth. In addition, there are several characters who want to overthrow the current regime.

As indicated earlier, the last part is mainly about the last offensive against the Commonwealth. The Walkers play a supporting role in this. Yet new ideas are still being processed that have major consequences for The Walking Dead world. I am therefore curious whether these ideas will be further developed in one of the many announced spin-offs. If this is not used, it is a missed opportunity as a specific idea can have very big consequences on how Walkers should be handled.

Whether Rick (Andrew Lincoln: Afterlife) and Michone (Danai Gurira: What if…?) will still appear in this season, I leave for you to find out. However, it is certain that their story will be continued in a spin-off. Negan and Maggie as well as Daryl will most likely continue their adventures between the Walkers as spin-offs have been announced for those characters. So Walking Dead fans should not be disappointed, there is plenty to come.

The last part of season eleven of The Walking Dead was good again. It had action, suspense, and emotion. Apart from the political games within the Commonwealth and the overthrowing of its government, fresh ideas are still being introduced. Even though the series has not managed to match the level of the previous seasons, in my opinion, it remained catchy. And in all honesty, the bar was set very high in the beginning.

This concludes an iconic series, although it doesn't feel like it. After all, most of the popular characters continue their adventures. I'll definitely check that out too.

Based on the above, I give the third part of season eleven of The Walking Dead a well-deserved 8.

An 8, I think it's on the high side and that has only one reason: the tension. The tension was completely gone. If you know which of the main characters will survive because those AMC bastards announce before or during the final season who will get a spinoff, and then let the most "exciting" things happen to those characters, that takes the fun out of it for me. . The failure of AMC time and time again with the enormous hypes they create and then not delivering has meant that I have found it disappointing for years. My vote for disappointing series always went to TWD by default. It's that Resident Evil was much worse otherwise I would have nominated this series again this year.
