Too Much - First episode

In Too Much, the super-romantic Jessica, single again after a dramatic breakup, heads to London, where she hopes to make a fresh start.
When a character genuinely irritates me while watching a show, I know one thing for sure: the actor is doing something really well. That's exactly how I felt with Megan Stalter as Kayla in Hacks. So annoying, in fact, that I sometimes wondered if there was anyone on set who could send her away. But she's back, and how. In Too Much, she plays Jessica, a chaotic, emotional woman who, after a dramatic breakup, moves to London for a fresh start.

From the very first moment, clichés are everywhere, and that's actually quite enjoyable. Jessica leans heavily on familiar rom-com elements in her vision, such as the idea that London is the city of romance. Of course, Paris remains officially the city of love, but London comes pretty close. Countless films and series, such as Heartstopper and Pride and Prejudice, have already gratefully capitalized on this city's charm. Pride and Prejudice may not be set in London, but it remains the ultimate classic when it comes to British courtesy and romance.

Drama queen with an obsession

The first episode is lighthearted, full of drama, and above all, delightful to watch. Jessica is a true drama queen obsessed with her ex's new girlfriend. On a friend's advice, she decides to change course and take a job in London. Full of courage, she plunges into the unknown.

To be honest, I was expecting a predictable first episode. And yes, there are recognizable elements, but I was still surprised. Megan Stalter manages to make Jessica an energetic, entertaining character you immediately want to follow. I found her role in Hacks tiring, but in Too Much, she's already kind of stolen my heart. And then there's Felix (Will Sharpe). At first, he comes across as cool and distant, but his look in the final scene reveals that there's more to him than that closed-off face. Is he Jessica's prince charming? We'll see.

The prince on the white horse?

Should you watch it? Well, that depends a bit on what you like. Do you enjoy swooning over romance, bad decisions, humor, and a healthy dose of drama? Then this is definitely for you. But are you looking for more substance, suspense, or plot twists à la Breaking Bad or Black Mirror? Then you might want to skip this one.
