Samuel L. Jackson is the latest big-name actor to enter Taylor Sheridan's television world in a Tulsa King spin-off titled NOLA King.Samuel L. Jackson enters Taylor Sheridan’s universe in a new, exciting Tulsa King spinoff, titled NOLA King. The legendary actor, known for iconic roles in Pulp Fiction and as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play a central role in this expansion of Sheridan’s ever-expanding television empire on Paramount+.
In NOLA King, Jackson (pictured) plays Russell Lee Washington Jr., a man from the criminal underworld who makes an appearance in the third season of Tulsa King as an opponent of Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi. While the confrontation between these two titans plays out in Tulsa, that rivalry also forms the starting point for a new power struggle in New Orleans, where Washington Jr. tries to get a firm grip on the reins.
While many details are still under wraps, the series is being described as a spiritual successor to Tulsa King, with the same gritty ethos and mix of crime, power, and personal rivalries. The series will be written and led by Dave Erickson, who currently serves as showrunner on both Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. He will transition to NOLA King after Tulsa King wraps its third season, which is set to begin production in early 2026.
The premise of NOLA King fits perfectly within the successful format of Taylor Sheridan, who has already proven with series such as Yellowstone (2018) and 1923 that spin-offs are not just byproducts, but full-fledged stories that can become audience favorites in their own right. Paramount+ and producer 101 Studios hope to launch a new hit in the Sheridan universe with Jackson’s charisma and experience.
Samuel L. Jackson is the latest addition to an impressive list of top actors in Sheridan's television empire, which includes Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Jeremy Renner, Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña. With his presence, NOLA King immediately receives a considerable amount of prestige and public attention.
Anticipation is high, especially as Tulsa King approaches its third season and the world of organized crime, retribution and power politics expands to the streets of New Orleans. What began as a story about an exiled mob boss in Oklahoma now grows into a full-fledged television universe with multiple heavyweights at the helm.
