Video Game High School - Season 1
Imagine this: a school where your name is your online 'gamertag' and where you can learn how to tactically play the most well-known shooter game, instead of topography. That school is Video Game High School (VGHS). VGHS is a show that was first aired on YouTube, on the channel called 'Rocketjump'. Later the series was also made available on Netflix. On both channels the show has been present for the past six years and it immediately appealed to me. As a big fan of gaming, I had no choice but to see what this show had to offer. I'm pleasantly surprised.

As a gamer myself, and as someone who takes an interest in shows such as these, I would definitely recommend it. Of course, your mindset has to be altered a little bit. There's no real character depth here, compared to other big shows. You just have to believe that gaming is the most important thing in that world. As soon as you get that, it's very easy to watch. The action scenes really do make the show. And as previously said, the CGI has a lot of influence here. It's almost like the characters are literally in the game (like Virtual Reality). Every gamer's dream, or so I would think. And VGHS continues; there are two more seasons after the first. These two create a lot more depth and improve the show in many ways. All in all, a decent first season with an interesting storyline, which is continued in the second and third season. An adequate 7 is the grade I give it.

The story follows Brian D. (Josh Blaylock, The Long Road Home), a student with a passion for gaming. When he suddenly finds himself and his friends
on a server joined by the best player in the world, The Law, (Brian Firenzi, 5-second films) everything changes for him. After a short struggle, Brian D. ends up 'killing' The Law and he becomes world-famous because of it. This results in Brian getting the chance to play for one of the best eSports (electronic sports) schools in the USA, VGHS. In the first season, we see how Brian tries to adapt into a school filled with all different kinds of gamers. Racers, FPS players and so on. He meets new friends such as Ted Wong (Jimmy Wong, MyMusic) and Ki Swan (Ellary Porterfield, Hidden Palms), but also love interest Jenny Matrix (Johanna Braddy, Quantico) and of course rival, The Law.New school filled with gamers.

time at the school. A nice combination of friendship, rivalry and the troubles that occur at a (gaming) school. Despite the fact that it's made by YouTube Content creators, its quality isn't any worse than that of other Netflix shows. Humor is definitely there, the show's ingenuity is typical for a YouTube show and its CGI has a game-like theme. This provides the show with some extra charm. The five episodes display the first year of Brian's time at the school.
