Jones' character, Amy Silva, and partner DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) will have to catch the killer and defuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a desire for energy and resources in the changing Arctic climate, with both their careers and their relationships at stake.
Written by Tom Edge, Vigil is a huge hit for the BBC and the first two seasons aired on Peacock in the United States. The series shifts ground every season. The first season took place on a submarine and the second in the air. Vigil is reminiscent of Amazon's The Rig, which aired its first season from an oil rig and the second from an Arctic glacier.
Jones said: “I can’t wait to return to Vigil series three, see our brilliant team in Scotland and work with Rose again. I’m sure it will be a thrill of a ride.”
Edge added: “I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning for a new adventure. In our third season we travel to the frozen north where the world’s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts.”
Vigil season three consists of six 60-minute episodes and is being created by Line of Duty producer World Productions in association with ITV Studios for the BBC.
It was written and created by Edge. The producer is Marcus Wilson and associate producer is George Aza-Selinger.
