The second season of Vikings: Valhalla is quite enjoyable. The second season of Vikings: Valhalla is better than the first. This may be because my expectations have been adjusted. I no longer have the expectation that I am watching a historically accurate television series. I'm watching an adventure series set in the past. Fair is fair, this second season succeeds with flying colours.
This is mainly because the storylines are all very well put together. Whether it concerns the battle of faith between Freidis and Olaf in the far north or the dangerous journey of Harald and Leif in the (south) east. It is exciting, intriguing and cleverly brings together different influences. With a little imagination, you can translate Freidis' story into a pirate story or into a thriller in which the protagonist encounters a kind of cult. Harald and Leif's perilous journey across a sometimes turbulent river will also evoke memories of other genres. Even the influence of a thousand and one nights is not far off.

However, the fact remains that this season is good from beginning to end. Besides the storylines, the acting is good. The characters who have a supporting role also leave a lasting impact. The different sets and the wild landscapes look great. It is well portrayed. The two other storylines in London and Kattegat are also constantly connected to the two stories of Freidis and Harald/Leif. It provides clarity and, despite everything that happens, peace. By that, I mean that the different storylines are easy to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed all episodes.
Despite all my positivism, Vikings: Valhalla still falls short of the quality of the best seasons of the original Vikings. However, this season does reach the same level as what I would've considered to be average on Vikings. In my opinion, this season is just as good as The Last Kingdom, a series thatI enjoyed as well. That is not to say that there are no criticisms to be made, such as the clearly whitened teeth and that creative liberty is a bit too creative at times. The fact remains, however, that it is simply a matter of enjoying a well-found and executed story for an entire season. You will not hear me complain if they keep this up.
