The sixth season of Virgin River starts Thursday, December 19. That's a little ahead of schedule - Netflix revealed its 2024 list of Originals in early February, and Virgin River wasn't on the list, along with a bunch of other fan favorites like Stranger Things, Ginny & Georgia and Wednesday, pointing to a 2025 return.
However, nothing is set in stone - Virgin River is the second series that was originally scheduled for 2025 but will return sooner than expected. The other is The Lincoln Lawyer, whose third season was delivered early and will debut Thursday, October 17.
Meanwhile, a series that was on Netflix's 2024 release list, season two of the smash hit The Night Agent, doesn't have a start date yet.
Season six of Virgin River, which began production in February and ended in June, comes a year after the fifth season concluded with a two-episode Christmas special that followed a 10-episode release in September. As reported at the time, the series planned to return to ten-episode seasons (and no more Christmas specials).
Along with the start date, Netflix has released more first look footage from season six, showing glimpses of all the Virgin River couples - Mel & Jack as they head to their bid day, Preacher & Kaia as they face his trial, Lizzie & Denny as expecting their first child, Cameron & Muriel as they pick up the thread after the heartbreaking season five finale, Doc & Hope as they deal with his medical lawsuit, which showrunner Patrick Sean Smith assured us will have a positive outcome , Brie & Mike, who appear to still be together, as do Brady & Lark, despite her dark secret being revealed in the season five finale.
There's no sign of Mel's newly found biological father Everett in the photos, but Smith confirmed in December that he will play a major role in season six.
Last month, the first images of young Everett and Mel's late mother Sarah were revealed, which will appear in '70s flashbacks next season for a possible prequel series. You can view the rest of the photos at the bottom of this news item.
According to the official synopsis for season six, set against the backdrop of Mel and Jack's romantic spring wedding, this sixth season promises new twists, escalating love triangles, delightful wedding drama, as well as revealed secrets from Mel's father's past that transport us into the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 70's.
Virgin River's core cast is led by Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson and also includes Tim Matheson, Annette O'Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury and Kandyse McClure.
Directors of season six are Martin Wood, Rama Rau, Felipe Rodriguez, lead actor Martin Henderson and Monika Mitchell. Writers include Patrick Sean Smith, Jackson Sinder, Erin Cardillo, Rich Keith, Ildiko Susany, Thomas Ian Griffith, Mary Page Keller, Tesia Walker and Becky Hartman Edwards.
