The new season, which picks up two hours after the season six finale at Mel (Breckenridge) and Jack's (Henderson) wedding, is expected to stream in early 2026.
Canadian actors Sara Canning (pictured) and Cody Kearsley play characters in an existing and new storyline, respectively, in the series based on Robyn Carr’s novels about the tight-knit community in the remote California town of Virgin River.
Canning’s Victoria is an ex-cop who was shot in the line of duty and now works as an investigator for the state medical board. She comes to Virgin River to investigate Doc’s practice, but runs into a friend she’d like to see again… or maybe more.
As showrunner Patrick Sean Smith confirmed in December, the battle for the Virgin River clinic will be a major storyline in season seven, with the investigation into Doc’s actions in saving a patient as a ploy to take over the clinic by a large hospital network.
“There's an overarching theme for season seven of the outside world invading Virgin River,” he said.
As for the friend-with-benefits Victoria will reconnect with, their shared police background would make Mike (Marco Grazzini) a natural possibility, depending on how that cliffhanger proposal to Brie (Zibby Allen) in the season six finale plays out.
After introducing Doc (Tim Matheson) to a grandson he didn’t know existed and Mel (Breckenridge) to the biological father she didn’t know she had, Virgin River will attempt to solve another family mystery next season with a new character, Clay.
Clay, played by Kearsley, is the kind of guy who stands out when he walks into a room. He’s a rodeo veteran, so he’s got a tough athletic streak, too. He grew up in the foster care system with his younger sister, whom he hasn’t seen since he was a teenager. He’s been searching for her ever since.
Virgin River’s returning main cast includes Breckenridge, Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, and Kandyse McClure. Mark Ghanimé will no longer be a series regular.
Canning’s previous roles include The Vampire Diaries, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Remedy, a series for which she won UBCP/ACTRA and Leo Awards; and the feature film War for the Planet of the Apes.
Kearsley is known for roles in The CW’s Riverdale, Netflix’s Daybreak, and Paramount+’s Guilty Party.
