Netflix confirms second season Wednesday

Netflix has announced that its hit series Wednesday is returning for a second season following rumors that the series could leave the streaming service for Amazon Prime.

Those fears turned out to be unfounded. Not only does the world's favorite 16-year-old goth girl return to our screens, the new season also just lands on Netflix.

The official Netflix Twitter account confirmed the good news with a very simple announcement. "It's official: Wednesday Season 2 is coming!!!" it read, next to a black heart emoji.

Little monsters will also be happy to hear that the sped-up version of Lady Gaga's iconic spooky single "Bloody Mary" is featured in the new trailer, which features footage of fans around the world dressed as Wednesday. And there are quite a few Wednesday admirers. Last month, Wednesday surpassed Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story for hours watched on Netflix.

From December 5 to 11, the Tim Burton series clocked in at 269.67 million hours watched, dethroning the Ryan Murphy series as Netflix's number two most popular English-language television series of all time, according to Variety.

The Addams Family spin-off series has reached an even bigger milestone by becoming the third series to reach a billion hours of views within a month of its release. In case you haven't checked out the latest phenomenon in popular culture, the series revolves around Addams teenage daughter Wednesday Addams who attends Nevermore Academy and tries to solve a murder mystery.

Wednesday

Netflix's description reads: "Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that troubled her parents 25 years ago - this all as she navigates her new and very confused relationships on Nevermore."

Jenna Ortega plays the title role and is joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams.

Former Disney Channel star Ortega garnered a Golden Globe nomination for her role, making her one of the youngest nominees ever at 20 years old.

The Scream actress shared all her hopes for season two just days before Netflix made it official. "I want her to get darker," she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I want her to get more into the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe.

"Because there's a lot of rules about her saving the school and doing whatever, but to me her main drive is with the monster of a competitive battle. Kind of like, 'Man, how does that dude do this?'"

"I think I want it to continue in an anti-hero stream rather than a typical hero."
