The series, co-produced by Tim Burton, was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Jenna Ortega plays a young Wednesday Addams who is expelled from school and ends up at Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for misfits. The series received a whopping 12 Emmy nominations, including one for Ortega herself for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
While no details are available yet, Burton and Ortega confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that a Wednesday spinoff is in the works. The subject matter and the characters involved remain under wraps for now.
Showrunners Gough and Millar enthusiastically welcomed the renewal: “It’s a dark delight to watch Wednesday spread her spell across the globe—with every dry remark. We’re thrilled she’s returning to Nevermore in season three. This time, she’ll unravel even more of the school’s sinister secrets and delve deeper into the Addams family’s crypts. As Wednesday would say, ‘Nothing brings a family together like a good dig.’”
Gough added: "Making television is a team sport. We've been doing this work long enough to know that series like this are rare. It's a perfect blend of writing, directing, acting, crew, studio, streamer, and fans. We're grateful to continue this story together."
About season three, he said: “Our goal is simple: make every season the best it can be.”
