Key character returns in Wednesday season two trailer

Netflix has brought back a familiar face in the trailer for the second part of Wednesday season two.
In the first trailer for the second half of Wednesday season two, Gwendoline Christie reappears as Larissa Weems, the shape-shifting headmaster of Nevermore Academy from season one. Although Weems was killed off in that season's finale, she now returns as Wednesday's annoying "spirit guide"—visible only to her. As expected, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) is less than thrilled about this supernatural development.

Noticeably absent from the trailer: Lady Gaga, who will play an as-yet-unknown role in the second half. The first four episodes of the new season are currently scoring hugely in the Netflix Top 10, with 50 million views worldwide, comparable to the mega-success of the first season two years ago.

The popular series was recently spotlighted in a cover story by The Hollywood Reporter. Lead actress Jenna Ortega spoke about the larger scale of this season: "Netflix is much more confident this time around. We were able to do things on a bigger scale and spend more time on certain scenes. There are also a lot of new cast members like Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper, and scenes with them really elevate your game because they're so talented."

Regarding the pressure of the role, Ortega said, "Sometimes I'll see a take and realize a scene isn't working because my posture isn't right, or my chin isn't far enough down, or I'm not quiet enough. I've never shot a scene that didn't keep me up at night."

Showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar also recently offered insight into their vision: "Wednesday can't stand still," Millar said. "There always has to be some emotional progression, without losing the iconic nature of the character. It's a fine line of tone and character."

The second half of Wednesday season two premieres on Wednesday, September 3rd. Watch the trailer below.
