Welcome to Wrexham renewed for fifth season by FX, spinoff gets title

FX has renewed Welcome to Wrexham for a fifth season and revealed new details about spin-off series Necaxa.
After three consecutive promotions and a historic breakthrough to the EFL Championship, Welcome to Wrexham are returning for a fifth season. FX calls the renewal an “absolute no-brainer” as the club – owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2020 – enters a new chapter in English professional football.

Season four of Welcome to Wrexham, currently airing Thursdays at 9pm on FX (and Fridays on Hulu), will continue to explore the Welsh club’s success story. The fifth season will chronicle their move up to the Championship – the top division outside the Premier League – in an unprecedented feat for a club that was recently in England’s fifth tier.

“Rob and Ryan helped Wrexham AFC become one of the greatest sports stories of our time and what has happened in Wrexham, Wales is truly magical. With Eva Longoria, they’re now teaming to support the dreams and aspirations of the Necaxa fans and Aguascalientes community too,” Nick Grad, the president of FX Entertainment, said in a statement.

The series will take viewers through a turbulent and transformative period at the club, with personnel changes, serious injuries, restructuring and the perseverance of players and fans.

Although Club Necaxa has a glorious past – with periods as a powerhouse in Mexican football – it has struggled with relegations, relocations and instability in recent decades. However, there is a group of fanatical supporters who never give up hope that "los Rayos" will one day return to the top.
