Who Is Erin Carter? - Season 1

In Who Is Erin Carter? Erin Carter manages to overpower a group of robbers in a supermarket without much effort. Was this beginner's luck for this bourgeois teacher or is there more to her innocent appearance?
Erin Carter (Evin Ahmad, The Rain) is a British teacher who lives in Spain and teaches at an international school there. She has a teenage daughter named Harper (Indica Watson, The Missing) and is married to Jorgio (Sean Teale, Reign) who is a nurse. The young family has a seemingly normal life until Erin finds herself in a life-threatening situation. She and her daughter are in a supermarket when it is robbed. Erin decides to fight back, manages to save her daughter and overpower the armed robbers. But how does this simple school teacher come up with such fighting moves and why did the robbers seem to recognize her?

Why doesn't anyone seem to notice that Erin sometimes walks around with unexplained scratches and wounds?

The story starts in England where we see Erin and a young Harper (Leila Faith Lopez) while they are on the run from something or someone. Five years later, it seems like this never happened. Living in a wealthy neighborhood, mother and daughter may be a bit out of place, but they make the best of it. Erin has a good bond with colleague Olivia (Susannah Fielding, The Great Indoors) and neighbor Emilio (Pep Ambròs), although she doesn't seem to let anyone get very close. Even her husband only shows certain sides of herself, which makes her a mysterious woman.

The environment in which Who is Erin Carter? largely takes place is prosperous and Mediterranean. The neat suits and floral clothing confirm this image, but in my opinion they were also often very frumpy. Some details in the series raise some questions. For example, why don't Erin and Harper speak Spanish even though they have lived in Spain for five years? Why doesn't anyone seem to notice that Erin sometimes walks around with unexplained scratches and wounds? And how can Erin's skin be so squeaky clean while her dress is covered in blood?

Erin's past begins to catch up with her after the supermarket incident makes the news. Old acquaintances seek out Erin, with all the consequences that entails. While she desperately tries to hold on to the life she has built, it seems to be slowly collapsing. Family friend Emilio tries to help Erin keep her true identity a secret, but asks for something in return. He's in trouble and needs her help to secure his job as a police officer and keep them both out of trouble.

The makers clearly want to create a dramatic atmosphere through the use of certain sound effects and music. For me this would not have been necessary. In many cases it distracts more than it adds anything and does not make the scenes more believable. The latter is certainly something that the series has difficulty with. A story with as much action as Who is Erin Carter? certainly does not have to be realistic all the time, but in this case it sometimes goes very far. It doesn't help that actors in certain supporting roles can't act very well. Although I don't have much to say about the acting of the lead actors, there are some really bad actors in the smaller roles.

In my opinion, the quality was not good enough to keep me as a viewer interested in the story.

The beginning of the series is unpredictable. However, as more becomes clear about Erin's history, the story also becomes increasingly predictable. Fortunately, there are some surprising moments towards the end that Who is Erin Carter? keep it interesting. But if I'm completely honest, the series lost my attention halfway through. Although I ended up watching all seven episodes, I have to say that I wouldn't have done so if I didn't write a review about the season. In my opinion, the quality was not good enough to keep me as a viewer interested in the story.

It will come as no surprise that my final verdict on Who is Erin Carter? is not very positive. Ultimately, the question in the title is answered, but I can't say that I understand many of her actions because of it. Who is Erin Carter? is a simple action series with a touch of mystery from which you should not expect too much. If you want to easily watch something within this genre, I can imagine that it will be quite entertaining. But you shouldn't count on a deep plot, award-winning acting and/or a story that makes complete sense. It's a shame that Who is Erin Carter? did not live up to my expectations, but hey, those types of series also come along sometimes.

Although I agree with you quite a bit, I still rate it a little higher. I found the first three episodes difficult to get through. Only in episode 4 do you learn a little more about Erin and that improved the story. But the whole story is a lot of coincidences. . The many fights are often quite over the top and their consequences, or in Erin's case the lack thereof, do not seem very believable. As far as I'm concerned, it stays at 1 season. But I don't really regret watching it.

I usually decide whether or not to watch a series based on reviews in MySeries. But I had already watched this series and I can honestly say that I had a great time with it. I also see imperfections or implausibilities, but I didn't stop after one episode. Not a top series, but a sufficient one in my opinion........
