Will Trent renewed for a fifth season by ABC

Will Trent renewed for a fifth season by ABC

ABC has officially ordered a fifth season of the popular crime series Will Trent, which is unsurprising given the show's great success.

Will Trent is currently the most-watched drama series on ABC in Live+Same Day ratings and remains highly popular with both viewers and network executives. The series is based on the books by Karin Slaughter and follows special agent Will Trent, played by Ramon Rodríguez.

Will Trent

Trent had a difficult childhood in Atlanta's foster care system but uses his unique insights to solve crimes and now holds the highest case clearance rate within the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

In addition to Rodríguez, the main cast includes Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, Sonja Sohn, and Kevin Daniels.

The fourth season, currently airing, is the most successful to date. Notably, the series attracts more viewers with each season—something that rarely happens. It is even the first ABC series in over ten years (since Scandal) to grow in viewership over its first four seasons, and the first network series in nearly fourteen years to achieve this.

The renewal of Will Trent is part of a broader range of decisions by ABC for the 2026-2027 season. Other successful series have also been renewed, including Abbott Elementary (season six), Grey's Anatomy (season 23), High Potential (season three), 9-1-1 (season ten), 9-1-1: Nashville (season two), and The Rookie (season nine).

Other series, such as Shifting Gears, Scrubs (2026), and RJ Decker, are still awaiting a decision.
