The Workaholics series aired on Comedy Central for seven seasons and 86 episodes between 2011 and 2017. Starring DeVine, Blake Anderson, Anders Holm, Jillian Bell, Maribeth Monroe and Erik Griffin, the workplace comedy follows a trio of immature college dropouts who work at TelAmeriCorp, a telemarketing company. As adults, they continue their college behavior and clash with their boss and co-workers.
Variety reports that delays are behind the film's cancellation. Due to the delays, the project does not fit into the streaming service's current schedule. The news came the same day that Devine's Peacock series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, had been renewed for a second season.
In his Instagram post, Devine (pictured), playing his character, wrote the following:
Welp, Paramount+ has decided to cancel the Workaholics movie. Obviously, this news is the loosest asshole. We were supposed to start filming in five weeks! P+ said we don't fit into their new 'global' strategy.
We are deeply hurt about this decision as we were so excited to bring the rarities one last time. It hurts me that I can't work with my best friends anymore. I'm hurt for the fans, and I'm hurt for our loyal crew and other cast members who now have to find new jobs.
