Third season of Yellowjackets gets start date from Showtime

Yellowjackets viewers, rejoice: season three has a start date.
The popular survival horror and coming-of-age drama returns on Friday, February 14, 2025. Showtime is joking by using Valentine's Day for the return of the Emmy-nominated series about stranded teens who resort to cannibalism to survive.

The creepy and violent, albeit short, teaser (below) announcing the release date certainly leans into the irony of the holiday by telling viewers to literally "eat their hearts out." Season three kicks off with two episodes, streaming and on demand for Paramount+ and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, before the linear Showtime debut two days later on Sunday, February 16.

Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets uses two timelines to tell the story of a team of highly talented girl soccer players (the Yellowjackets) who become the unfortunate survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.

The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to fierce clans, while also following the lives they try to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never truly over and that what began in the wilderness still remains. is far from over.

It stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessell, Warren Kole and Sarah Desjardins. Elijah Wood returns in a recurring role.

The cast of their younger counterparts is led by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Kevin Alves and Steven Krueger (who plays the only adult in the previous timeline, as the coach of the Yellowjackets ).

Guest stars this season are two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Joel McHale.

Original lead actress Juliette Lewis is missing from the adult cast list as the 10-episode third season picks up after the events of the shocking season two finale, in which - spoiler alert! - Lewis's character Nat was killed when she accidentally received a lethal dose from her friend and fellow survivor Misty (played by Ricci in the current timeline).

In addition to the series' shocking present-day ending, the 1996 wilderness story's past timeline also left behind several corpses, appointed a new leader as they turn to cannibalism to survive, and left the surviving Yellowjackets team left without shelter and in their most precarious position yet.

When speaking about her emotional ending and departure from the series, Lewis left the door open to possibly return in some form, but also said goodbye to the series. “I thought they wrapped up the characters really beautifully, and I just love good writing, so I was happy to be a part of it,” she revealed. “And I’ll miss my cast. Such a good group of girls, I love them so much. They’re going to do amazing.”
