Molly Ringwald cast in fourth and final season of Yellowjackets

Molly Ringwald joins the returning cast of Yellowjackets for the fourth and final season of the series on Showtime. According to reports, Molly Ringwald will play Vicky, Van's mother, in the final season of Yellowjackets. Vicky is a recently recovered alcoholic trying to make amends for her past mistakes. Van is portrayed by Lauren Ambrose in the adult timeline and by Liv Hewson in the 1990s.

Ringwald's casting is noteworthy since the adult version of Van met a tragic end in the previous season. This raises questions about Vicky's role: will she seek answers about her daughter's death, or will she appear in the 1990s timeline after the teenagers are rescued and return to their lives in New Jersey?

Either way, Ringwald, known as an icon of the 1980s, fits well within the series' nostalgic theme. Former teen idols such as Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Ambrose, and Hilary Swank have previously been part of the adult cast.

The series, created and executive produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, tells the story of a talented girls' soccer team that must survive after a plane crash in a remote northern wilderness.

Yellowjackets combines elements of a survival epic, psychological horror, and coming-of-age drama, following both the team's gradual descent into rival clans and their lives nearly 25 years later, where the past continues to haunt them.

In addition to the aforementioned actors, the cast also includes Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, and Courtney Eaton.

Ringwald appeared in the first season of Ryan Murphy's Monster anthology series for Netflix, Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, as Shari Dahmer, Jeffrey's stepmother. She had a recurring role as Mary Andrews in the CW series Riverdale and appeared in Hulu's The Bear and the second season of FX's anthology series Feud.
