Yellowstone (2018), the most-watched series on linear television, was originally scheduled to start with season five part 2 in November, followed by the debut of the contemporary spin-off in December. The two launches have now been pushed back to next year after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed production of both series.

Lead actor Kevin Costner's future on the series is the subject of speculation following a dispute over the extent of his availability in season five. It is rumored that it is possible that he will star in the final episodes of Yellowstone (2018).
Meanwhile, it hasn't been confirmed yet, but as Deadline previously reported, Matthew McConaughey is expected to star in 2024, alongside actors from the original series.
1944 and 2024 follow the previous prequels 1883 and 1923. All Yellowstone series are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. The spin-offs are supported by Paramount+.
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone (2018) from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started,” said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
The series is about the Dutton family who manages the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders, a sprawling town, an Indian reservation and vicious business rivalries.
The Yellowstone franchise continues to explore the Dutton family dynasty past and present with new locations and characters, as well as some crossover characters.
“The global success of Yellowstone (x-on:018) continues to thrill and excite us at 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch. This has been such an exhilarating ride with our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios and we can’t wait to bring 1944 and 2024 to audiences everywhere,” said David Glasser, CEO, 101 Studios.
Yellowstone (2018), reruns of which are currently airing on CBS to strong ratings, was co-created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson. Executive producers are John Linson, Art Linson, Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay and Christina Voros.
Sheridan's latest series for Paramount+, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, starring David Oyelowo, premieres Sunday, November 5. He also created Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, Mayor of Kingstown, starring Jeremy Renner, and Special Ops: Lioness, starring Zoe Saldaña.
