The series follows Kurt Wallander (Adam Pålsson, Avenue 5) in modern Sweden. We see the professional and personal experiences that shape him as a twenty-something fresh out of the police academy. At the heart of the series is the case of a teen he can't save from a gruesome assault, after which he must put aside his own guilt to solve the crime.

Despite the fact that Young Wallander is ripe for future anthology seasons, the series probably hasn't performed well enough to continue with a third season. As with all series renewal decisions at Netflix, it all boils down to how a series performs. Netflix measures the performance of its shows through many metrics, including how many people start watching a show and how many people finish watching the show. It seems that the second season has not made much of an impact globally at this point. However, the series did well in some key Scandinavian regions, which makes sense given the origin of the source material. For the fans, the cancellation of the series will come as a surprise.
