Zoo - Season 2 (DVD)
In the first season the CBS/NBC show Zoo started off with an interesting premise. What if the animals could no longer accept our behaviour towards them, and instead rise up against humanity? The series is based on the book with the same name, written by popular American author James Patterson. The first season already showed us the possible consequences for humanity if the animals were to rise up against us. Zoo showed us how small, insignificant and fragile we actually are. In the second season Zoo continues where it left off at the end of the first season. All main characters are still there, but luckily some new faces have joined the cast.
It's been a year since the animals started to display unusual behaviour towards humans and the first attacks occurred. It appears as if the various animals are working together as they're no longer attacking each other. All mutated animals now have one common enemy: mankind. Even the insects are targeting humans. The government comes up with a plan to kill all animals, but our group has a different plan. This group consists of journalist Jamie Campbell (Kristen Connolly, House of Cards), secret agent Chloe Tousignant (Nora Arnezeder, Mozart in the Jungle), veterinary pathologist Mitch Morgan (Billy Burke, Revolution) and the two animal experts Jackson Oz (James Wolk, Mad Men) and Abraham Kenyatta (Nonso Anozie, Game of Thrones). Instead of killing all the animals, they want to save them and for that they have to travel to all the corners of the world. They figure out that the key element (an animal) to the cure is still alive and thus time is of the essence.
Zoo is an entertaining show, which revolves around worldwide attacks by mutated animals. Noticeable is that these animals do not appear to attack all the time. During an insect attack a random mother is killed by a swarm of hornets, while Chloe (during the same attack) doesn't even receive a single bite. This is just one example of various animal attacks which do not come across as credible. That's a shame, because the storyline is most certainly interesting. Zoo could have been a lot more intense and exciting. The acting is not bad, but the actors do not really have room to put some more depth into the characters. The show now appears to be just one of those run-of-the-mill adventure shows with several interesting moments, drama and a little bit of romance. The story is too drawn-out, which makes it tedious to watch. The show is nice to watch if you've got nothing else, but don't expect something that'll stick with you.
