Alpha 00 - First Episode
Alpha 00 is a new Dutch police series that I can't quite gauge the strength of just yet. The first episode begins with a flashback of a young woman fleeing a house with a child in her arms. During their escape, something explodes in the house. The consequences of this remain a question mark for now. What quickly becomes clear is that this event has caused trauma for the main character, Diana Martens (Sallie Harmsen). She leads a mobile investigative team that tries to solve cases all over the country.
When the first case begins, we are a year later. Diana and her team are confronted with a young girl who calls the emergency number, stating that she is in the forest fleeing from something or someone. There aren't really any more leads because the phone call is abruptly cut off. The forest where the girl is located turns out to be the same forest where nearly twenty years earlier another girl disappeared and was never found.

It quickly becomes clear that in the past, not much effort was made to find that girl. Is there a connection between the disappearance of the girl now and that of twenty years ago? Diana and her team pull out all the stops to find the girl and come to the realization that what is happening today has its origins in the past.
The question now is whether Alpha 00 can grow into a strong police series, like Flikken, or if Alpha 00 will be yet another attempt to capture something similar on screen that ultimately turns out not to be a great idea. In that regard, this first episode is not exactly a hit. The script is somewhat predictable and you can see many things coming. The dialogues are also not exactly high-level and come across as rather sterile. Hopefully, this will loosen up a bit because the concept of the mobile team does have potential, in my opinion.
