Atlantis will not get a third season

BBC One has confirmed that the fantasy series ‘Atlantis’ will not get a third season. The series premiered in September 2013 with 13 episodes, and got a sequel in November 2014. The second season, which still has seven episodes left, will also be the last season.

The BBC said: “The final seven episodes of ‘Atlantis’ will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned. We are very proud of both seasons but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through.”

The cancellation of Atlantis (which replaced ‘Merlin’) follows directly after the cancellation of BBC three's ‘In The Flesh’, also after two seasons, for which budgetary reasons were cited.

Atlantis’ is broadcast by BBC America in the United States and the series will also come to an end there. It is not yet clear how the second season will end. Does the series get a well-rounded ending or will it end with a cliffhanger leaving the fans in limbo about what is going to happen to Jason, Pythagoras and Hercules?

Do you think it is annoying that the BBC is ending another series after just two seasons?
