Bad Sisters - Season 2

In the second season, the Bad Sisters successfully repeat the chaos of the first season.
After a completed story in the first season, it was surprising that Bad Sisters got a sequel at all. The fantastic opening scene says everything about the atmosphere and the intentions. Furthermore, this season is again a wonderful chaos and a smart story. All that brought with a big wink. This is Irish dramedy at its best.

This is Irish dramedy at its best.

The developments of the first season may be completed, but the consequences are still palpable. When someone is literally dug up from the past, all hell breaks loose again. This happens just as Grace (Anne-Marie Duff, Sex Education) seems to have found her love with a new man, Ian (Owen McDonnell, Killing Eve). Just when the past seems to be catching up with Grace, something dramatic happens. This has very serious consequences for everyone involved.

After all these developments, the other four sisters have no choice but to come up with new plans to cover up everything that happened in the first season. This happens just as naively and artificially as in the first season. The differences between them are magnified. The common goal is regularly lost sight of. Coincidence regularly helps the clumsy sisters. In addition, Ian helps to limit the damage. When Roger (Michael Smiley, Dead Still) and especially his nosy and annoying sister Angelica (Fiona Shaw, Killing Eve) start to interfere, things do not get any easier for the sisters.

The sharp dialogues and humor remain in perfect balance with the cleverly built tension.

As the police investigation takes shape, things become increasingly urgent for the sisters. The overactive and persistent police officer Una (Thaddea Graham, Redemption) ensures that the police do not let go in this case. Even the almost retired inspector Fergal Loftus (Barry Ward, Protection) cannot escape Una's drive. Despite the fact that he actually does not want to get his hands dirty with this case anymore, and he would rather focus on his divorce battle and the care of his daughter, he is sucked into this case again.

Bad Sisters has everything that makes an Irish dramedy so good. A great cast. Enjoyment and enthusiasm that radiates from the screen. Beautifully shot images and a clever story without it becoming too complex. It is all a bit less obvious than you might expect. The sharp dialogues and humor remain in perfect balance with the cleverly built up tension.

Special mention for the actresses who portray the four sisters. The mutual dynamics and their facial expressions carry the series. Creator and actress Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), Sarah Greene (Normal People), Eva Birthistle (The Last Kingdom) and Eve Hewson (The Luminaries) clearly put their best foot forward in Bad Sisters.

I too had not expected a sequel to a great concluded first season, and was quite surprised when I suddenly saw that there would be a second season. I was a bit skeptical at first to be honest. Once I started the second season I could not stop watching and I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogues and the necessary humor. I found the second season to be of the same level as the first, although I did think that the second season contained even more humor. Good review and well worded Ron.
