Beacon 23 renewed by MGM+ for a second season

MGM+ has renewed the sci-fi mystery thriller series Beacon 23 for a second season.
The eight-episode second season will start on the streaming service in April next year. The news is no surprise. The series had already been renewed by Spectrum and AMC, where it was originally greenlit, and MGM+ has now formally committed to airing the series.

Beacon 23

Starring Stephan James and Lena Headey in season one, Beacon 23, based on the best-selling novel by Hugh Howey, is created and produced by Zak Penn (Ready Player One).

Set in the furthest reaches of the galaxy, the first season followed Aster (Headey), a government agent, and Halan (James), a stoic ex-military man, whose fates became intertwined after they became trapped together in a of the many beacons that served as lighthouses for intergalactic travelers.

In season two, Beacon 23 is now little more than a prison with Aleph on board and The Artifact offers more questions than answers. Without a clear path forward, the residents of Beacon 23 must rely on each other, but their conflicting agendas may get in the way.

“The creative team behind Beacon 23 has masterfully brought Hugh Howey’s best-selling book to life, and we’re excited for fans to continue this journey into Beacon 23’s universe of suspense, emotion, and unforeseen twists,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+.

Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead, The Shield) and Joy Blake (The Passage, Ghost Whisperer) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers for season two.

The second season stars James, Natasha Mumba (The Last of Us) and Ellen Wong (GLOW).

Mazzara and Joy Blake are produced by Boat Rocker and serve as executive producers alongside Zak Penn, David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, James Middleton, Nick Nantell, Katie O'Connell Marsh, Liz Varner and Stephan James.

Beacon 23’s Season Two ups the game: more action, more mysteries, more twists, and exciting new characters,” said Mazzara. “It’s a thrill ride. I can’t wait for the audience to see it.”

Boring series. No suspense/action. I fell asleep to it.

After watching the first season, I'm glad there will be a sequel. The structure of the story is good, the foundation has been laid and I am now curious to see how the story will develop further.
