The story in the second season will revolve around the oldest brother of the Bridgerton family, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey, Broadchurch). He is trying to find a suitable partner. In this second season, Simone Ashley (Sex Education) will portray Kate Sharma. Anthony is quite interested in her.
In the book, Kate has the surname Sheffield. The creators of the series have decided to change this. In the series, Kate and her family have an Indian heritage. By doing that, the creators will continue the multicultural London high society that they've shown in the first season.

In the first four weeks after its premiere, more than 82 million households watched Bridgerton. Due to that, the series has become one of Netflix's biggest hits ever. Thus, it didn't come as a surprise for this series to be renewed with a second season near the end of January. “We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing,” creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen said in announcing the Season 2 renewal. It's likely that we'll see more casting news quickly.
