Chapelwaite canceled by MGM+ after one season

Chapelwaite canceled by MGM+ after one season

There will not be a second season for the MGM+ series Chapelwaite. Series co-creator and executive producer Jason Filardi announced the news on X (formerly Twitter).
“I’m afraid Captain Boone’s story ends on that beach of weathered, Maine sand,” Filardi wrote. “There will be no Season 2. Thank you to all the Chapelwaite fans!”

The series, starring Adrien Brody (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty) and Emily Hampshire (The Rig), is set in 1850 and follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody) as he and his family of three go to his family home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher's Corners, Maine, moves after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles is soon confronted with the secrets of his family's sordid history and must fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.

The cast also includes Jennifer Ens, Sirena Gulamgaus (Transplant), Ian Ho (The Expanse), Eric Peterson (American Gods), Christopher Heyerdahl (Damnation), Julian Richings (Patriot (2017)), Steven McCarthy (The Expanse), Gord Rand (Orphan Black) and Trina Corkum.

Chapelwaite is based on Stephen King's short story Jerusalem's Lot. The series is produced by Donald De Line (Wayward Pines). Jason Filardi and Peter Filardi are the executive producers and showrunners.

To be honest, I would have been more surprised if a second season had been announced. The story had been told. Of course there was a hook to continue, but it wasn't really necessary. I thought this was a wonderful miniseries and I think it is justified that it remains that way. If you still want to watch it, there is no cliffhanger and the story has a logical ending. So don't hesitate because it has now been canceled :-)
