Dream Productions - First four episodes (sceener)

The Dream Productions miniseries is enjoyable to watch, is well made and forms a nicely rounded whole.
Dream Productions is an animation miniseries based on the successful cinema films Inside Out. The series can be viewed on Disney+ from December 11, 2024. My Series was allowed to preview these four episodes. Two extremely successful parts of the Inside Out films have now been released, made by the Pixar animation studio. While the first film was already successful with a revenue of € 860 million, the second was a real stunner with almost € 1.7 billion. These films revolve around the world of the girl Riley, where her emotions are depicted through cartoon characters.

The series was created by Mike Jones, who was also involved in Inside Out 2, and revolves around the characters who create Riley's dreams. These are both the daydreams when Riley looks ahead in her classroom, and the long dreams when Riley relives the day in her bed at night or fantasizes about exciting experiences that still await her. In the miniseries, it is Paula Persimmon (voiced by Paula Pell, Girls5eva) who has been taking care of Riley's dreams in a structured manner for years. She sees her assistant get promoted and then starts working with the creative Xenia (Richard Ayoade, The IT Crowd).

The short series has four episodes of approximately 22 minutes, with only the last episode lasting a few minutes longer. In terms of story, Dream Productions plays between the two cinema films. Riley gradually leaves her early childhood behind her and grows up to be someone who thinks with her friends about what to wear to the prom at school. The cartoon characters who direct Riley's dreams must therefore also participate in her new world.

The miniseries is only partly about Riley, but largely about all the characters who provide the dreams. This involves collaboration, competition and the old guard who sees that young up-and-coming talent also develops great ideas for the main character's nightly inspiration. There are references to the television world where it is all about viewing figures and tension and sensation. The directors of dreams are also judged on the success of their work.

The miniseries is enjoyable to watch, is well made and forms a nicely rounded whole. There are several small details that are nice, such as a brief reference to Little House on the Prairie in the first episode. The music (including Billie Eilish) is excellent and it is nice that the voices of the emotions from the film such as Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) also return in this series. The level of the films cannot match this series, but it is a fun series to watch together during the Christmas holidays.

About the writer, Karzal

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
