The champion of the season gets a fully sponsored seat for the following season and whoever gets noticed can potentially go on to further in the sport. The ultimate goal of the series manager, Susie Wolf (yes, Toto's wife) is to get a lady into F1.
The ladies that are followed are carefully chosen. Not everyone seems to qualify for the Netflix camera. There are a number of girls that you never even see in a scene or shot. The ones that are chosen obviously have something special.
There are two American girls, one of whom is adopted and the other is the daughter of a (in America) famous rally driver and has already driven very competitive rally. But one-seaters are really something else, she notices.
Two sisters from the UAE come from an extremely wealthy family and buy supercars for fun to drive around the UAE. No shortage of money there. This is in contrast to a girl from the UK who, with much effort and sacrifice from her father, ended up in the racing world.
And then there is the girl from the Philippines who, besides racing, does a lot on social media to increase her fame and is under a lot of pressure.
Well, it's a motley crew and that's of course Netflix's intention. That way it remains very nice to follow.
Unfortunately I do have the idea that they are doing the same thing here as with Drive to Survive, namely that through clever editing and suggestions more drama and tension is shown than there probably was in reality. Because that is of course good for the ratings. But if you look past that a bit, it is a fun series to follow. It was nice to see that my favorite of the first episode also became champion. Who is that? Go and see for yourself :-)
