Lisette Olivera is leaving after a few episodes as a regular actress at FBI

FBI's Stuart Scola, played by John Boyd, will continue without a permanent new partner.
Lisette Olivera, who was added to the cast last summer as a new regular for season seven, is leaving the hit CBS series after filming a handful of episodes. They are expected to air as planned.

Olivera (pictured) plays Syd Ortiz, a trained Behavioral Analysis Unit Agent who joins the criminal division of the FBI's New York office. She hasn't made her on-screen debut yet; the character will be introduced in the fourth episode airing Tuesday, November 12.

Ortiz was intended to be the new partner for John Boyd's Scola, succeeding Katherine Rebee Kane's Tiffany Wallace who left in the first episode of season seven. Since then, Scola has been trying out partners and going through a revolving door of hopeful partners. Ortiz now joins the list of temporary partners and leaves after a short trial period.

According to sources, Olivera's departure is not a reflection of her work, but rather stems from how the character fits into the series. The 25-year-old actress, of National Treasure: Edge of History fame, may have been miscast as sources have heard she came across as too young for an FBI Special Agent, an authoritative figure that requires gravitas that comes from life experience.

It's unclear whether FBI will introduce a new character as a regular partner for Scola, but that's a possibility and a formula often used by long-running crime procedurals.

In addition to Boyd, season seven's regular characters are Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Jeremy Sisto and Alana de la Garza.

FBI, the flagship franchise in its first year of a three-season renewal, is produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with CBS Studios. The series is produced by Dick Wolf, Mike Weiss, Alex Chapple, Amanda Slater, Rick Eid and Peter Jankowski.
