Alexa Davalos will not return in season five of FBI: Most Wanted

With two strikes in Hollywood, it's unclear when CBS' FBI: Most Wanted will return for a fifth season, but when it does, it will be without actress Alexa Davalos. The news will probably come as a surprise to fans, as there was no hint in the season four finale that Davalos' character, Special Agent Kristin Gaines, would be leaving the series from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.

The departure also perhaps came as a surprise to many in the series, possibly including Davalos himself. Sources say a producer told her on set that she's not coming back after filming her last scene of season four a few months ago. According to multiple sources, the conversation - and Davalos' departure - was amicable.



Davalos (pictured), who joined the procedural drama series early in its third season, played Kristin Gaines, an FBI Special Agent and former Office of Naval Intelligence officer who served on the FBI Fugitive Task Force. When she came on board, the team was led by Jess LaCroix, played by Julian McMahon, who left during season three and was succeeded by Dylan McDermott as the team's new leader, Remy Scott.

In the season four finale, Gaines was part of the team that helped Remy (McDermott) catch his brother's real killer, Benji, who was trying to escape to Canada by train.

It's unclear how Gaines' departure will be explained in the upcoming fifth season, which has yet to be written due to the WGA strike, and whether Davalos will be asked back to complete her character's arc.

Gaines originally joined the team as a replacement for Kenny Crosby, who was written off the series in the season three premiere due to the departure of his interpreter Kellan Lutz.

Like other Wolf Entertainment procedurals, FBI: Most Wanted has had several cast changes, usually for creative or financial reasons - or a combination of the two.

Before joining FBI: Most Wanted, Davalos played Juliana Crain in The Man in the High Castle on Prime Video for four seasons.
