Budget cuts spell the end for Flikken Rotterdam

Flikken Rotterdam will conclude at the end of 2026 after nine seasons.
"We look back with pride on eight seasons of a series that has become a staple on Dutch television. Flikken Rotterdam knows like no other how to combine tension with current stories, straight from the heart of the city. The decision to stop was not made based on the content or quality of the program; the series was even the highest-rated NPO program this quarter, but the budget cuts within the public broadcaster force difficult choices, and this is one of them," AVROTROS states in a declaration.

According to the broadcaster, preparations for the ninth season have already begun, and the broadcasts are scheduled for the end of 2026. "Until then, the team will continue to work with full commitment on this beloved series. We thank the producer, cast, and crew for their years of dedication and involvement. Thanks to them, Flikken Rotterdam gained its own identity: raw, recognizable, and full of character."

Flikken Rotterdam, like Flikken Maastricht, is a spin-off of the VRT series Flikken, which was broadcast on the Belgian channel between 1999 and 2009. The main actors include Mark van Eeuwen, Huub Stapel, Cees Geel, Ortál Vriend, and Anneke Sluiters.

Huub Stapel has already bid farewell to the series, and actor Thom Hoffman (68) will play a major role in the new season of Flikken Rotterdam. The eighth season is already available on AVROTROS. Thom plays a shrewd lawyer from the second episode of the eighth season, assisting three students suspected in a case where a man died from 'head-kicking.' It is up to the investigation team and the judiciary to prove who delivered the fatal kick.
