George Gently is een Britse detectiveserie van de zender BBC. De serie ging in première op 8 april 2007.
George Gently is een Scotland Yard-detective van de oude stempel die vrede zoekt met het feit dat de grens tussen politie-agent en crimineel steeds vager geworden is. Nadat zijn vrouw (een Italiaanse) in Londen was vermoord vertrok Gently naar zijn nieuwe standplaats in Northumberland. De verhalen spelen zich af in 1964, het begin van de seksuele revolutie. Ook het druggebruik is dan toegenomen. George Gently gaat in Northumberland samenwerken met de jonge Detective Sergeant Bacchus voor de eerste zaak.

A beautiful series. Satisfying ending after eight seasons. I didn't like all episodes, but that's not possible. Back in the days of the 1970s, when working as a woman as a cop, for example, was still special. A man's world. Nice insight.
