A surprisingly fun series for the whole family that not only deals with the 60s but also really feels that way. A time when children still listened to adults, problems were still solved by talking and where the sheriff, if he ever had to draw his weapon, would probably find that his revolver had become attached to the holster and thus unusable. Sometime in the early 1960s, Arthur moves with his mother Beth, a nurse, to Granite Flats, a village that, like the local hospital where Beth will work, has very close links with the local military base. On the evening of their arrival, Arthur sees some fireballs flash by and the next day several people from the village report that they have suffered inexplicable damage. At every place where the sheriff is going to take the damage he finds strange pieces of metal, but he does not have an explanation of what they are and where they come from. The same day, an explosion takes place in the local workshop that shakes up the whole village. At first it is thought, because the cold war between America and Russia is at its peak, that the Russians have carried out a missile attack, but no projectile impact is found. Arthur, who has already made friends including the sheriff's son, learns from him that strange people have been spotted in the village. When the pieces of metal disappear from the sheriff's office, Arthur and his friends think about conspiracy theories and the kids set out to solve the mystery. After the success of their first mission, Arthur and his friends decide to work as detectives, their assignments include tracking down missing cats, unmasking a classmate's mysterious admirer, finding out why a local retailer faces a cash shortage every month and many more child detective-level tasks. This is not really a drama, but rather an adventure series cum mystery / thriller for the whole family, which looks quite a bit away. The special thing about this series, however, lies in the fact that about half of the series is aimed at young viewers with the detective adventures of the children, while the other half is clearly more for adult viewers, while everything flows seamlessly into each other. . In the meantime, it all remains very good, even at the "exciting" moments, which makes the series suitable for a very wide audience. Of course the series also has some weaknesses, but the question is whether they are really disturbing. For example, by the end of season three, the number of spies per 100 inhabitants in "Granite Flats" is well above the national average and just about every character who makes his / her appearance in the course of the series is either a spy, double agent or has ever been been. Handy if you want to give a story a new twist here and there, but of course it gnaws a bit at the whole in terms of credibility. Although the series will be completed at the end of season three, it is clear that the makers probably had at least one more season in mind that never happened since the series was eventually discontinued. So you might find it a shame that it ends on a cliffhanger that provides a start for a new, albeit different story. If there are people who want to follow the series; As far as I could see it can only be found on the English (Aus, Can, UK, IRL, USA and a lot of small islands) sites of Netflix so to watch from the Netherlands or Belgium it only works if you use a VPN or smart -DNS.
