Prime Video releases trailer for Harlan Coben's Lazarus

Prime Video has released the official trailer for Harlan Coben's Lazarus, the new thriller series starring Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy.
Based on an original story idea and written by bestselling author Harlan Coben and BAFTA winner Danny Brocklehurst, Harlan Coben's Lazarus follows the character Joel Lazarus (Sam Claflin). When his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus (Bill Nighy), commits suicide, Joel returns home.

Once home, Joel begins to experience disturbing and unexplainable events. He soon becomes entangled in a series of unsolved murder cases while grappling with the mysteries surrounding both his father's death and the murder of his sister 25 years ago.

The cast also includes Alexandra Roach as Jenna Lazarus, David Fynn as Seth McGovern, Karla Crome as Bella Catton, and Kate Ashfield as Detective Alison Brown.

The series is written and produced by Coben and Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Stay Close), along with BAFTA winner Nicola Shindler (Nolly, It's a Sin) and Richard Fee (Fool Me Once, The Stranger (2020)) on behalf of Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios, and also by Claflin himself.

Wayne Che Yip (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Utopia (2020)) directs the first two episodes and also serves as executive producer. Matt Strevens (Doctor Who, Capital (2015)) produces.

Harlan Coben's Lazarus premieres on Wednesday, October 22 on Prime Video. Watch the trailer below.

This sounds like a promising addition to the Harlan Coben universe. Prime Video seems to be investing heavily in the suspense and mystery Coben is known for, but this time with an original story instead of an existing novel. The combination of Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy as father and son immediately adds weight to the cast, and the element of family secrets, unsolved murders, and supernatural or psychological twists fits well with the typical Coben formula.

It's also interesting that Coben himself is heavily involved as a writer and producer, along with Danny Brocklehurst and Nicola Shindler, a team that has previously delivered strong thriller series. With director Wayne Che Yip (known for The Rings of Power) behind the camera, the production also appears to be a major visual undertaking.
