Indonesia roept! is a Dutch documentary which aired on NTR. The series premiered on September 1, 2023.

In the 8-part series Indonesia Roept! ("Indonesia calls!") presenter Hans Goedkoop follows the trail of his grandfather: Rein van Langen. 'Grandpa Rein', born on Java, grew up around 1900 at a time when colonial rule in Indonesia still seemed unshakable. But resistance is growing, the Indonesians are demanding the right to self-determination and after the Second World War a bloody War of Independence ensues. Major General Van Langen fought in that war, which lasted roughly from 1945 to 1950. It is one of the most controversial wars the Netherlands has ever fought. And Van Langen is not just anyone; he is one of the leading figures on the Dutch side. And what is it like for Hans Goedkoop to find a valued family member on the side of the perpetrator? By comparing the stories about his grandfather and the Dutch with illuminating and unvarnished testimonies from Indonesian people over 90, descendants and experts, it becomes clear how widely the sentiments and interests varied.
