Jan Hus is an Czech drama series which is aired on ČT1. The series premiered on May 29th, 2015.
We enter the story at a time when power disputes between Kings Wenceslas and Sigismund were plaguing Bohemia. Sigismund wanted to seize the Bohemian kingdom, imprisoned Wenceslas in Austria, had the royal treasure plundered, and his Cumans burned Czech villages. And the brave preacher Jan Hus cried from the pulpit: "Even the dog and the snake guard their lair! Are the Czechs worse than dogs and snakes?" Then he revolted half the university when he wrote an appeal to all the masters and the provincial assembly. It was he who brought Queen Sophie an offer from influential friends to go to Bavaria to her family under their protection, as she would not be safe in Prague now. The queen flatly refused. "I am the Queen of Bohemia, my place is here!" Jan Hus publicly criticized the disorder in the Church, especially the way of life of God's servants, for example, that they wore expensive clothes or that they sat around in pubs and gambled. He was convinced that a sinful priest could not administer the sacraments, could not be a servant of God... He earned their hatred. They complained about him to the king, to the archbishop, they went to sue the pope. They accused him of spreading the doctrine of Wycliffe. And they envied the fact that his Bethlehem Chapel was regularly crowded with worshippers, while their churches were only sporadically visited by the faithful. Disagreements at the university over Wycliffe's teachings escalated, culminating in King Wenceslas asking the university masters to accompany him to the Council of Pisa. The German part of the university refused, and since its three votes against one German always gained a majority, the king decided to right the wrong.
