L'arte della gioia is a bold and compelling series with a protagonist who is both sensual and strategic. Tecla Insolia is powerful as Modesta, and Valeria Golino's direction is stylish and daring. The series touches on themes of power, freedom and sexuality with flair and sharpness. Not every episode is equally strong, and sometimes it is a bit over the top, but the idiosyncrasy and intensity make for a compelling viewing experience.
