Luther: The Fallen Sun, as the title of the film is, will hit the streaming service in March 2023. Unfortunately, an exact date has not yet been announced. Jamie Payne (Outlander) directs from a script by series creator Neil Cross (The Mosquito Coast). Netflix also dropped some new images (see them below in a Twitter post from Deadline).

The film is being billed as a continuation of the BBC series, which solidified Elba's status as a leading actor and earned 11 Emmy nominations.
The Plot: A gruesome serial killer terrorizes London while the brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther is behind bars. Haunted by his failure to catch the cyber psychopath now taunting him, Luther decides to break out of prison to get the job done by any means necessary.
Cynthia Erivo (Genius: Aretha), Andy Serkis (Andor), and Dermot Crowley (returning as Martin Schenk) co-star in the film, which went into production last November.
Netflix is producing the film in collaboration with the BBC. Cross and Elba are producers along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready for Chernin Entertainment. Dan Finlay produces for Chernin Entertainment, along with Brendan Ferguson, Miki Emmerich, Kris Thykier and Priscilla Parish.
You can watch the trailer for the first season of Luther from 2010 below.
