Schenk already appeared in The Fallen Sun, but Morgan was absent in that. The film is directed by Jamie Payne, who previously directed both The Fallen Sun and episodes of the original BBC series Luther. The script is once again penned by creator Neil Cross.
In the new film, London is shaken by a series of brutal and random murders, which secretly calls Luther back into active duty — but this time, the situation is even more dangerous, as everyone seems to want to eliminate Luther.
In The Fallen Sun, we saw the disgraced detective escape from prison to stop a ruthless serial killer terrorizing the city. Cynthia Erivo played Odette Raine, and Andy Serkis portrayed the psychopathic killer David Robey.
The original television series Luther started in 2010 and ran for five seasons. Elba’s titular character, a brilliant but tormented detective, dealt with the complex Alice Morgan, played by Wilson — a former researcher with murderous tendencies who appeared in three of the five seasons. Crowley’s Schenk began as an adversary within the force but gradually developed a working relationship with Luther, secretly helping him from within the police.
Filming for the new movie is expected to commence in February 2026.
