Lynley is an British detective series which is aired on BritBox. The series premiered on September 4th, 2025.

Tommy Lynley is a brilliant police detective but an outsider in the force – simply by virtue of his aristocratic upbringing. He is paired with Barbara Havers, a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background. With seemingly nothing in common and against all odds, the mismatched duo of Lynley and Havers become a formidable team, bonded by their desire to see justice done.

The storyline continues, no murder solved in a single episode. I'm curious about the other episodes. A good start to the new series. Not original or surprising, but still enjoyable and good enough to keep watching.

I've never seen the original series with Nathaniel Parker as DI Lynley, so I can't compare, but I really enjoyed this one. The script is full of underlying tensions, which I absolutely loved! Here are just a few: Lynley is an Oxford graduate and the son of an Earl, which contrasts sharply with the background of his colleagues (and most people), there's an old feud with his Chief Inspector that's deliberately kept vague, and there's his new female partner, who's on her last chance because she's been acting headstrong. In other words, she stood up for herself...

The first two episodes—available temporarily on VrtMax in Flanders—were a single murder case, which was a bit confusing because the series originally only had four episodes (in the UK), one per murder case to solve. But that's just a side issue; the series has a brisk pace (not easy for this type of crime series) and the acting is quite good. And there's a love interest, Helen, an old classmate of Lynley's, who shows up in the case of the missing real estate agent.

It's no Inspector Morse or Endeavour, but I still enjoyed it.
