I'm just going to say it: A new Sarah Lund has emerged! Mart Smeets' sweater has been exchanged for a parka with a fur collar and instead of crispbread, black pudding with white beans in tomato sauce is on the menu every morning, but a new Sarah Lund has emerged. Finally, another somewhat emotionally damaged, double-watched handsome guy with sniffing skills that would make Sherlock Holmes screeching jealous. Out with those flags! We all had to wait too long for this, so this should be celebrated. This must be celebrated. Three cheers for the new one from ITV, Marcella. Then you quit your job to take care of your family full time, your guy suddenly runs off. Nice shit. Are you unemployed at home? At some point all those repetitions of Coronation Street and Eastenders come out of your nose. How nice is it, when suddenly someone rings the doorbell and your old employer is on the doorstep? Or maybe you have time to look at some pictures? Pictures of dead people. Well, that's pretty good. You were a detective and you were damn good at it. You decide to pin your badge back on to deal with a ghost from the past, unsuspecting that this decision may just turn your life upside down. In short, that is the life of Marcella Backland and that is quite good to watch. Is Marcella the new The Killing? No. We are excited and in blissful euphoria, but we have to be realistic. Marcella is good, Marcella is exciting and Marcella tastes like more, but Marcella is not The Killing. Rather, it's the River of 2016. Scandinavian oppression on British soil. Not surprising in itself when you consider that the mastermind behind the Danish / Swedish The Bridge, Hans Rosenfeldt, is also the spiritual father of Marcella. River had an unparalleled Stellan Skarsgård, Marcella leans completely on the icy Anna Friel, who somehow runs off with your sympathy from episode one. She is a 160 cm power woman, who is not too fooled to hammer the front teeth out of the teeth of her 30 cm larger husband in a dispute in the relational sphere. She relies completely on her gut and does not shy away from upsetting people in her search for the truth. She often looks harsh and indifferent, but inside it is a hurricane of emotions. Emotions that occasionally cause meltdowns, which make Chernobyl look like a small industrial accident. It makes her just as interesting as unstable predecessors like Sarah Lund, Saga, Carrie Mathison and Dexter's sister. Just to review some wonderful emotional wrecks. The story is nice in its plot twists, which puts you on the wrong track more than once. It can be irritating that there are quite a few loose ends left at the end, but I only see that as all the more reason to let Marcella come up for a second season. Because I would like that, a second season. A second season with some answers to still outstanding questions, but above all a season with a lot more Marcella. Give it to me. Give it to me now!
Marcella is originally from ITV and they will only broadcast the series in September. Read this article but then it becomes more clear. https://www.mijnserie.nl/nieuws/columns/5837-netflix-en-change-van-seizoenen-tijden-en-afleveringen/
Season 1 was very good, hence an 8. But season 2 was already less and 3 was nothing at all. Moreover, very unbelievable considering what they all get away with. It is a pity that the level of S1 has not been reached for a long time. For season 2 and 3 I give a 5 and a 3 respectively.
Wow cool season 2. Drama, suspense, lots of plot twists. Looked almost in one go. Slightly dramatic ending. But it provides good soil for a third season.
Watched season 1 yesterday. After a promising start, it disappoints me. There are too many things that don't add up and all kinds of storylines with loose ends. Wait a little longer with season 2 and read here that season 3 is not worth it.
