Mayans MC (2018) - Season 4

After the explosive third season, this fourth season of Mayans MC is unfortunately no more than a blank.
The grand plot at the end of the third season gets a very simple solution this season. It's a bit of an omen for the rest of this season. The third season could compete with the very best seasons of brother series Sons of Anarchy. Unfortunately, the end of season three and the sequel in this season is really very far-fetched. However, let's be honest. Normally this is one of the charms of these biker gang television series. You don't watch both series because it is so truthful. It is more about the action, the mutual relationships, and the (un)ordinary situations in which the motorcycle gangs find themselves.

The Sons also play a major role this season. It ensures that some old acquaintances appear on the television screen again. Relations are tense. It ignites when a lurid discovery is made. Drug lord Miguel Galindo (Danny Pino, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. It gives room for other forces to stand up. The Mayans MC therefore have to make difficult choices in several areas. Not only in terms of drug supply, but also in terms of rivalry. The internal power struggle also causes unrest.

The third season could compete with the very best seasons of brother series Sons of Anarchy.

The Reyes family cannot escape that dynamic. Father Felipe (Edward James Olmos, Battlestar Galactica) increasingly struggles with his past. Angel (Clayton Cardenas, American Crime) struggles with private issues. The women in his life bring excitement, sadness and disappointment. Ezekiel (JD Pardo, The Terminal List) seems to be focusing more and more on the motorcycle club. When an old acquaintance comes along, that world is threatened. EZ (short for Ezekiel) transforms from a nice and smart boy into a full-fledged Mayans member. His decisions become more and more rigorous. His position within the club is becoming increasingly important. His strong bond with Angel is strained by a violent incident.

Despite the fact that a lot happens and the transformation of EZ produces beautiful television, this season is less interesting than previous ones. It does have all the features that make both biker gang series so popular. However, it also lacks something. The pace is usually slow and some situations may be just a little too far-fetched. The fact that it is difficult to follow as a viewer due to all those different storylines may be a reason that this season feels less good. The storylines seem to jump just a little too much from one subject to another. As a result, the feeling that not everything is tied off equally well prevails.

The series is and remains addictive.

The fact that this season also manages to end on an absolute high makes me look forward to the next one. The series is and remains addictive. This season also has enough excitement and sensation for that. It provides more than enough bonding with certain characters to want to see the already-announced fifth season. Despite the criticism, this season is not that bad. It's not that the series falls has become unwatchable. Everything is happening. The violence, the reassuring roar of the engines, and the unexpected twists of fate that brings unprecedented victims make sure that the next season can't start soon enough for me. Hopefully, this sequel will be just as explosive as the excellent third season.
