New Medisch Centrum West gets a second season

Due to its success, Medisch Centrum West (Medical Centre West) will get a second season, Talpa Network has announced.
Medisch Centrum West was originally a TROS program and was broadcast between 1988 and 1994. The series is about the lives of doctors and nurses in the emergency room, but there are also a number of storylines written around the love lives of the doctors, nurses and other hospital staff.

The leading roles in the current season are played by Susannah El Mecky, Beau Schneider, Frans van Deursen, Saskia Temmink, Lieke van den Broek, Kürt Rogiers and Quiah Shilue. Margreet Blanken, who already participated in the original series, also plays a role. She will definitely return in the second season. Other returning actors will be announced later.

The first season of the reboot of the popular hospital series can now be seen on SBS6.

At its peak, over 4.5 million people were glued to their TV screens every week to watch Medisch Centrum West. The series was widely acclaimed and even won a Golden Televizier Ring. According to Talpa Network, the new version of the series attracted around 1.1 million viewers every week, including delayed viewing.

Despite the fact that many people were watching, the reactions after the first broadcast were not exactly positive. There was one bright spot for a number of viewers, however, because one of the main characters from the old cast returned in the new version.

None other than Sister Reini (Margreet Blanken) suddenly appeared on screen. And she really does play Reini van Lennep-Hermans, the nurse who once married Dr. Dick van Lennep, played by Klaas Hofstra, who died last year. The now 83-year-old actress is of course no longer playing a nurse, but a volunteer in De Kas, a building on the grounds where staff and patients can relax for a while.

The season finale of Medisch Centrum West can be seen on Sunday, January 12 at 9:30 PM on SBS6.
