Monster: The Ed Gein Story is an American crime series which is aired on Netflix. The series premiered on October 3rd, 2025.

In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm — hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.

Perhaps the best of the Monster series. Not only does it lay out all the horrors, which are beautifully depicted, but it also provides a lot of backstory and depth. And a formidable lead role. It's also wonderful how various films and other serial killers inspired by/by Ed Gein are woven into the series.

This was a truly pleasant surprise; I haven't seen such a good series in a long time. And I haven't even mentioned Charlie Hunnam's lead role; what a masterpiece, he deserves an Oscar as far as I'm concerned. This is a complete history, not a short documentary about who Ed Gein was and what he did. As bad as the man was, you'll find yourself sympathizing with him more and more towards the end. Highly recommended...

Even though I consider this the weakest of the Monster series, it's still a good season. Charlie Hunnam is fantastic, and the story is captivating. However, if you do a little research, you'll see that a lot of it has been fabricated. The whole Adeline story, for example, and he "only" killed two people. The part with his brother was never proven, and the part with the two hunters and the chainsaw is pure fantasy. The fact that certain films drew inspiration from his story is woven into this season, a nice homage to those films in itself, but I found the Hitchcock part, in particular, too prominent; it pulled me out of the main story.

Nevertheless, I had a good time with this, definitely worth watching.
