High score and fundamentally disagree with Mandy's review, which is perfectly possible, right? That two people 'see' and feel the same series completely differently. Top actors, beautiful film adaptation of the book and an atmosphere that completely sucked me into the late 19th century. And the latter is exactly what distinguishes these kinds of 'detective series' from each other. You have hundreds of them and they are all about the same thing. Murder. Characters. Who did it? What makes one better than the other is best illustrated by the success with both critics and audiences of True detective, the outsider, big little lies of the sinner. It is the atmosphere in which such a series is bathed that makes the difference. And that already starts with the intro (title music, opening credits ...), immediately followed by the depth of the characters. Admittedly, Luke Evans' character has a little less depth than the other two main roles, but this series has it. The many nominations and (won) awards prove this. This series is definitely recommended for those who love detective stories with a dark edge ... and depth. I am a fan!
